Classes at The Einstein Montessori School

Other professionals, such as speech language pathologists, psychologists, and occupational therapists, each teach in a classroom. This prevents the embarrassment of pulling a student out of a traditional classroom to receive special attention. We meet students' needs within the context of the classroom using research-proven subject materials, equipment, and supplies. Also at EMS, speech pathologists provide phonological awareness instruction in small groups. This teaches a complete understanding of how we combine separate individual sounds to form complete words. In this way, all students can learn how to easily recognize, read, and pronounce new words, no matter how complicated.

The speech language pathologist uses the Lindamood Phoneme Sequencing Program®* for reading, spelling, and speech (LiPS)®*. She also practices visual sequencing tasks with the children.

These programs are essential for our students, because we have to strengthen their processing or learning weaknesses before we can make great gains in their reading and spelling skills. Our reading curriculum focuses on integrating the Wilson and Lindamood®* methods. We use reading material of specific grade difficulty so we can track their progress. To motivate them and hold their interest, we choose only materials that students love to read.

Our language arts teacher uses specialized programs to help these dyslexic students understand the structure of oral and written language. Our math, science, and social studies goals are to keep the students working within the Sunshine State Standards. When needed, we also accommodate students' special needs in many unique ways.

One such accommodation allows them to read their textbooks on the computer with screen reader software. This software reads unknown words out loud to students, when they are having difficulty applying their newly developing reading skills. This encourages students to use their new reading skills, and bridges the gap between understanding a concept and being able to recognize it on a test.

In reading, writing, math and LiPS®*, each teacher has two aides to help with classroom instruction. We provide every teacher in every classroom with the latest proven teaching tools. But their dedication makes the biggest difference; their devotion to reaching every child, no matter what learning difficulty that child is having.
